Four Tips For Social Media Content In 2021

March 3, 2021

1. Show Yourself

People invest in people. So you need to put yourself out there on your social media business accounts. Many people struggle to be on camera, particularly creatives. If being on video is too much, then try cutting yourself from an image and using it in your content. Many tools allow you to cut and edit your images. Try using an application such as Canva, a graphic design tool that is now considered essential by most Social Media specialists.

2. Carousels, carousels, carousels

This form of contact has become extremely powerful over the last couple of years, and it looks set to continue. As a marketer, your job is to tell a story, whether that be about a brand, product or service. If you’re working with a small budget or lack skills in video, carousels are your saving grace!

A great way to structure your carousels would be to incorporate the AIDA model. Start with grabbing attention on your first slide using a catchy title, attractive font, and some beautiful artwork on the side. It sounds like we are serving up a delightful dish.

As you move through the slides, you need to provide content that interests your audience. This is important during slides 2-4. Once the viewer goes beyond 4, their attention starts to waver, so you need to move fast to achieve action at the end of your carousels. This will likely be in the form of a follow or some form of a vanity metric. Something simple and not too demanding of the thumb!

3. Embrace your inner copywriter

Beware! There is a difference between copywriter and content writer. The best way to differentiate the two is to think of how journalists use Twitter. The copywriting is used within the tweet’s body and encourages action, in this case, a click through to the article. The content writer takes centre stage once the user lands on the article, telling the story and elaborating on the creative tweet.

4. Stop creating for likes. Start creating for people

We have all been there, wondering why everyone and their pet hates us and our content. Apps such as Instagram are now moving away from vanity metrics by hiding the total number of likes on a post. Take the hint! Likes are not important. What is important is the value you can provide to your followers and encourage them to spend more time on your posts. Become an authority by sharing your skills and knowledge. This is what the internet is built on, free information! A good place to start is by finding out what your audience pain points are. This will give you a great source to help you build a content plan!
